Spine Detail for Biomechanical Analysis
Movements of the individual vertebra in the spinal columns can now be analyzed
with The MotionMonitor's spine detail functionality. This product
is ideal for both in-vitro labs and clinical applications where quantification
of spinal motion is required. Multiple sensors are assigned to individual
vertebra of the spine. Anatomical landmarks are then digitized to define the
dimensions of each vertebra in the segment. Alternatively, use the "default"
axis layout for fast set-up in a clinical setting.
An
image of a forward flexion movement for a healthy 26 year old athlete is shown
on the left. The data on the right is from a 45 year old sedentary lawyer with
back pain. In the detail spine animation, the vertebrae that appear in
white have sensors attached to them. In this example, sensors were assigned to
T1, L1 and the sacrum for tracking these individual segments as well as the
movement of their respective spinal columns. The graphs display the degrees of
Lumbar Flexion, Flexion Velocity and Flexion Acceleration. While the range of
motion is similar for each, note the differences in the smoothness of velocity
and acceleration data for two subjects.
